English Heritage has thrown a £330,000 lifeline to
World War 2 code breaking site Bletchley Park.
The grant will be used to complete urgent roof works at
Bletchley Park. Bletchley may also get another £600,000 over three
years from English Heritage and Milton Keynes Borough Council to
help repair its rapidly deteriorating buildings.
The roof work is expected to be completed by next March, and
will help protect original roof beams and the internal plaster of
the mansion.
In July, about 100 UK academics signed a letter to The Times
condemning the neglect at Bletchley.
IBM and security firm PGP have also made donations to the
National Museum of Computing which is located at Bletchley. A
number of celebrities, including
ex-James Bond star Roger Moore, have also called for Bletchley
to be saved.
