Keeping down IT costs without detriment to a company’s
productivity, agility or competitive edge has long been a challenge
for businesses. As the economy lurches downwards, organisations of
all sizes, but especially small to medium-sized enterprises, are
wondering how they can justifying pushing forward with new
projects, even if they are growing. Here, one firm, Chargrove
Business Services (CBS), tells how it responded to such challenges
by switching to an IT infrastructure model that better suited its
needs. Even though CBS is itself an IT specialist (providing IT
services for a large proportion of the Business Link centres in the
south west of England), it has found that its own IT infrastructure
was becoming more of a burden than an asset, particularly as the
organisation grew. By allowing an external hosting provider to take
over the network, the firm has been able to exploit a whole host of
benefits, including extending flexible remote working for staff,
boosting productivity and employee motivation, while simultaneously
addressing green targets and disaster recovery provisioning.
