UK Ministry of Defence contractor Lockheed Martin has selected
Sweden's IFS Applications to
provide core enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for the
MoD's James (Joint Asset Management Engineering Solution) Land
project.
IFS's contract is worth £13.9m. The James Land project follows
the previously implemented James 1 system, which is in use by 9,000
UK army personnel.
The management information system will enable the army to
optimise asset usage by minimising fleet sizes.
IFS ERP applications will give the army information about asset
identification, configuration and maintenance requirements, as well
as current usage and ownership.
James Land upgrades the James 1 system by adding IFS
Applications components to handle processes involved in
engineering, asset data collection and analysis, as well as
workshop management for modification of equipment.
The system will also improve force mobility and will be extended
to include ground-based equipment used by the Royal Navy and Royal
Air Force.
The goal is to improve availability, enhance operational and
training effectiveness, and reduce
equipment support costs.
The roll-out of James Land, which is based on IFS Applications
7, is due to begin in 2010.
