TheBritish Computer Society
(BCS)is seeking to overturn the negative
image of government IT projects by listing top-ranking projects
"that have demonstrated success".
The BCS has published a booklet called Success - Public Projects
can Work, which profiles award-winning public sector IT

Each of the organisations nominated are winners or finalists in
the BCS IT Industry Awards.
The BCS's top-ranking public sector IT projects are:
- Defence Business Learning
- Environmental Agency flood warning service
- Environment Agency carshare scheme
- National Assembly of Wales new website
- Newcastle City Council's mobile working programme
- Northumbria 101 partnership
- Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council's commitment to
modernise VOSA MOT computerisation programme
- West Sussex accessible service partnership
Elizabeth Sparrow, BCS vice president, BCS external relations,
said, "These projects have proved their worth in the returns they
have offered their communities and the professionalism with which
they have been implemented.
"They offer examples of government programmes that both
nationally and locally are introducing IT systems that offer
citizens efficient, innovative and, above all, useful
services."
