Despite thebenefits of wireless working, some
cities are still much less wired than others, says research
commissioned by Lexmark.
A survey of 2010 office workers found that in London, workers
are 1.5 times more likely to be using a wire-free computer and
printer than if they were in Liverpool, for instance.
London leads the race to exploit wireless technology and the
capital was named as the region of the UK that has the highest
amount of
Wi-Fi users in the workplace, with an estimated 24% of
wire-free workers across the country coming from this region.
This was followed closely by the South of England (excluding
London) with 22%, Scotland with 17% and the North with 16% of
workers using Wi-Fi.
"Wi-Fi enabled products offer more advantages in the office such
as hot-desking, where workers can move to any vacant desk, and also
allowing working from home when needed," said Steve Purdy, UK
country general manager at Lexmark.
