Groundwork contractor Glencroft is set to save £100,000
a year in fuel costs by implementing a web-based vehicle navigation
and tracking service.
The
Masternaut service uses satellite
global positioning technology (GPS) and mobile communications
(GPRS) to enable Glencroft to track vehicles and improve the
efficiency of the company's mobile operations.
Managers can access this information using any web-enabled
computer or handheld device.
"By reducing unnecessary mileage, we hope to reduce our annual
fuel bill by half," said John Duffy, commercial director at
Glencroft.
The service also provides vehicle drivers with voiced
directions, traffic alerts and alternative routes when
necessary.
"Since introducing Masternaut we have also improved our
maintenance programme as we can be proactive in anticipating faults
based on vehicle usage rather than waiting for a breakdown to
happen," said Duffy.
