Secondary school kids are being tracked at a Doncaster
school usingradio frequency
identification(RFID) tags in their
uniforms.
Ten pupils at Hungerhill School in Edenthorpe are having their
movements monitored and the Doncaster RFID manufacturer wants the
technology adopted by other schools,
reports the Doncaster Free Press.
The Hungerhill pupils have an RFID chip embedded into the school
badge on their uniform, which produces a radio signal.
The system is being trialed with the approval of the children's
parents, but the move has been slammed on civil liberties grounds
by the child advocacy group "Leave them kids alone".
Darnbro, the provider of the technology, says the system can be
used for accurate and speedy pupil registration, child security,
and to aid school behaviourial and reporting systems covering rowdy
pupils.
Darnbro is pitching the system at the Department for Education
and Skills for a wider take-up in school uniforms across the
UK.
