The Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) has
awardedEircoma £70m contract to upgrade its
networks and help transform its government services.
The Network NI contract will last between six and ten years and
will support a range of voice, video and data applications with
next generation capabilities.
The technology will support a number of ongoing NICS projects
such as Workplace 2010, Account NI, Records NI, HR Connect and NI
Direct.
As part of the contract, Eircom will provide services to all 11
government departments across Northern Ireland.
Network NI will be supported from eircom's new Service
Operations Centre in Belfast, consisting of a network operating
centre and service organisation that has been designed specifically
to meet the particular requirements of Network NI.
It is estimated that up to 40 new jobs will be created in
Northern Ireland as a result of the deal. Eircom has established
partnerships with key suppliers Fujitsu and Cable & Wireless to
deliver the system.
