Marks & Spencer plans major IBM IT upgrade

Marks & Spencerwill carry out a complete refresh of its IT systems over the next three years with IBM managing the project. IBM will help with the installation ofpoint of salesystems in stores across the UK and Ireland. The project aims to process customers faster at tills, said Marks & Spencer's IT director, Darrell Stein.

Marks & Spencer announced in May that it is to spend £450m over three years to revamp its supply chain and supporting IT systems, and aims to generate £500m in sales from its website.

Earlier in the year, the company also launched a new website that it developed in collaboration with Amazon.
