Share trading centre Plus Markets will be able to fully
utilise its latest trading platform after being granted recognised
investment exchange status.
This will enable the exchange to trade in more markets and put
it in direct competition with the
London Stock Exchange, which has itself recently completed a
massive technology upgrade.
The exchange, which focuses on shares for smaller companies is
implementing the trading platform from Nordic market operator
OMX, which sells its technology other exchanges.
A spokesman said the process of implementing OMX started a
couple of months ago. "It is a root and branch change," he added.
He said the OMX system, offers flexibility, scalability and
robustness. "It allows us to deal in new investments and handle
larger volumes."
He said the exchange will ensure future growth, which will
result from the exchanges new status. "These days if you are an
exchange it is not just a case of what you are doing now."
