Sun Microsystems has launched version six of its Java
Standard Edition platform, which supports the integration of Java
technology with other programming languages.
The Java SE 6 software includes a new framework and developer
APIs to allow developers to mix Java technology with dynamically
typed languages, such as PHP, Python, Ruby and JavaScript.
The package also includes a full web services client stack and
supports a range of web services specifications, including JAX-WS
2.0, JAXB 2.0, STAX and JAXP.
Java SE 6 includes expanded tools for diagnosing, managing and
monitoring applications and tool interface updates for the Java
Virtual Machine (JVM) and the Java Platform Debugger Architecture
(JPDA).
The software also includes a new layout manager component, based
on the NetBeans GUI Builder (formerly codenamed Matisse). Java SE 6
has been designed to provide enhanced support for the Windows Vista
operating system.
Sun also announced version 5.5 of its NetBeans integrated
development environment, which is available for download alongside
Java SE 6.
