Symantec security suite released as public
beta
Symantec has released the public beta of Norton 360. The bundled
security suite can be downloaded from its website. The service
combines anti-virus software, tools to protect against spyware and
fraud, data back-up and restore utilities, and tools to tune up a
PC. The final version is scheduled to be available by March 2007,
said Symantec.

O3Spaces offers open alternative to
Sharepoint
Dutch open standards software firm O3Spaces has developed a
collaboration product that offers users an alternative to
Microsoft's Sharepoint. O3Spaces' Workplace works with the open
source suites Staroffice and Openoffice, giving them back-office
collaboration functionality for the first time. Workplace is built
in J2EE and runs on Apache Tomcat servers.

Demand for blade servers increasing, says
IDC
IT managers are buying an increasing number of blade servers,
driving the strongest global server sales for 12 months, according
to research from IDC. IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker
reported that worldwide demand for blade servers had grown
year-on-year by 29.9%. Blade servers accounted for £379m of server
sales in the third quarter.
