Dover Harbour Board has overhauled its local area
network infrastructure to support the port's
expansion.
With a new ferry port due to be operational by 2016, Dover
Harbour Board consolidated its Lan using six Foundry Big Iron RX
Series switches. The network, which provides a 2gbps core, has a
redundant and resilient design to support critical applications
such as radar and security access control.
As well as being one of the busiest international ferry
terminals in the world, Dover also runs major cruise and cargo
operations.
Daniel Gillett, ICT manager at Dover Harbour Board, said, "We
are planning to build a new ferry port and we want to be happy that
the network will cope."
"The decision to use Foundry Big Iron RXs was an important one
because of the types of applications we have running on our
network, for example, security management - logging all the ships
that enter and leave the harbour - as well as a radar control,
which safely manages entry and exit of vessels."
The contract with Foundry was worth more than £150,000, said
Dover Harbour Board.
