Altiris, a provider of service-oriented management
solutions, has launched version 6.8 of its Deployment Solution,
with new enhancements designed to reduce the time and cost of
deploying and managing IT infrastructures.
The company claims that the new features will help IT professionals
automate the management of diverse server and client computing
platforms with a focus on reducing the cost and complexity of
change to new operating environments and hardware platforms such as
64-bit.
Altiris believes that IT organisations require solutions to
ensure business continuity through the transition to new software
and hardware platforms. In order to effect efficient computing
change, Altiris will provide integrated solutions for hardware
inventory assessment, operating system deployment, application
packaging and virtualisation; and data and settings migration.
Version 6.8 includes numerous features to support 64-bit
machines including: a 64-bit agent support for Windows, Linux and
Itanium systems; additional Itanium hardware support with imaging
and scripted OS install; 64-bit WinPE pre-boot and 64-bit job and
task filters based on processor type. Other features include Mware
ESX Server 3.0 scripted OS installation support; Altiris Software
Virtualisation Solution integration for management and deployment
of virtual software layers; and improved PXE support.
Altiris stated that the integration of Deployment Solution and
Altiris Software Virtualisation Solution technology is unique to
the industry and could make the quest for a single OS image a
reality.
