SAP has announced that its NetWeaver platform has
compatibility with Java Enterprise Edition 5, allowing users to
develop robust Java applications based on the
platform.
The business software giant has offered support for Java
technology since 2003 but said its latest milestone would speed
users’ application projects by supporting developments based on the
latest mature technology standards.
Compatibility between SAP’s NetWeaver Application Server and
Java EE 5 would allow faster development of enterprise service
orientated architecture based applications and reduce total cost of
ownership for businesses, SAP said.
The announcement comes against a background of increasingly
bitter rivalry between SAP and Oracle, whose chief executive Larry
Ellison used a quarterly results announcement last month to suggest
the firm was struggling to adapt to the SOA approach.
“SAP appears to be rethinking its strategy as it loses
application market share to Oracle and confronts the difficulties
of moving its application software to a modern Service Oriented
Architecture,” Ellison said.
