Unilever has reached the halfway point in the global
roll-out of an automated back-up service for 30,000 laptops in
Europe and America.
The company, whose brands include Persil, Hellmann’s and
Marmite, is using Connected Backup/PC, a service from Iron Mountain
that backs up laptop data to a central location.
Unilever has timed the roll-out to coincide with a worldwide
desktop and laptop refresh programme. The system replaces a range of
different back-up approaches used across the regions.
“One of the biggest challenges in protecting corporate data held
by our laptop community was the fact that we couldn’t rely on users
to undertake back-ups,” said Nigel Orchard, the firm’s
vice-president of global solutions.
“We needed a solution that would bring data protection back into
the realm of the IT department.”
