Secure Computing is to acquire messaging security
company CipherTrust for around $273m (£156m), as it continues to
expand its security solutions portfolio.
Secure Computing bought CyberGuard in 2005. Secure Computing
chief executive officer John McNulty said, “Over the past few
months, we have made excellent progress with the integration of
CyberGuard. We believe the time is right to continue investing in
enterprise gateway security, which is experiencing strong
growth.”
But the company also posted a sales warning at the same time as
announcing the CipherTrust acquisition.
Secure Computing now expects sales for the second quarter to be
around $38.5m to $39m, which is less than the $43m to $45m it had
previously projected.
The CipherTrust deal is expected to be completed by 8 September,
said Secure Computing.
CipherTrust chief executive officer Jay Chaudhry will become
chief strategy officer of the expanded company once the deal goes
through.
