Government bodies get home working appliance with military-level security

Monday 03 July 2006 01:10

A new secure remote access device is on sale, targeted at governmental organisations that require the military security.

AEP Net Remote, from AEP Networks, is a portable Ethernet encryption device that home and mobile workers can plug directly into their PCs. It uses encryption to secure network-based communications, and has been approved by GCHQ.

It features “compromise control mechanisms” which will allow the user to disable the unit remotely if it is lost or stolen, leaving the rest of the network intact.

There is also a tamper-resistant enclosure to protect against physical attacks. The system can support over 50,000 users.

“Net Remote has been designed to protect access to some of the most critical systems in Government,” said Rob Lane, AEP Networks’s European vice-president for Secure Networking.

“It can meet end-user requirements within areas such as the military,  criminal intelligence, child protection and immigration control, as well as those in operational networks used for international collaboration,” he added.
