Microsoft code-sharing website goes live

Microsoft has launched a new code-sharing website as a way of advancing collaboration with third-party developers on projects.
The CodePlex website will host code from Microsoft and other developers.
Code contributed to the site can be delivered under any licensing terms, including open source models.
Microsoft is offering some source code under its own Share Source Initiative (SSI) licensing scheme, giving access to source code under varying rules.
Microsoft has so far released 7.5 million lines of code under SSI licences, with the code available at www.microsoft.com/sharedsource.
The CodePlex website has previously been in beta, and there are around 35 code development projects currently on the go, with half of them initiated from outside Microsoft.
The site uses Microsoft’s Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server to deliver collaborative development and carry out bug tracking. The site is at www.codeplex.com.
