Oracle has issued a list of Linux configurations it has
tested with its own products, to make it easier for users to choose
a safer open source system.
The move also aims to help companies reduce their Oracle support
costs, said the company.
The Oracle Validated Configurations programme covers software,
hardware, storage and networking stacks running Linux systems.
Customers can download a document containing a list of the
system configurations Oracle has pre-tested.
Lower Oracle support costs should be the result of the
initiative, as Oracle often has to deal with mis-configuration
issues when it comes to integrating Linux systems, said the
company.
Oracle drew up the test configurations with the help of leading
Linux distributors Novell and Red Hat, along with chip makers AMD
and Intel.
In addition, it worked with storage suppliers Dell, EMC,
Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Network Appliance and Sun Microsystems.
Oracle’s recommended configurations will be updated in
partnership with its testing partners.
