Tesco’s international operations and IT director
received over a 22% earnings increase to £2.2m this
year.
The increase for Philip Clarke is revealed in Tesco’s annual
report and includes basic pay of £628,000 and various cash and
share bonus awards.
Clarke picked up a total of £1.8m last year at the thriving
company, where he has spent his entire working life.
The 45-year-old director is overshadowed in the pay stakes,
however, by Tesco chief executive officer Sir Terry Leahy.
Leahy saw his pay package rise to almost £4m, which represented
nearly a 25% jump from the previous year.
The salary details are covered in the company’s annual report
for the 12 months ended 31 March 2006.
The UK’s leading supermarket posted record profits of £2.25bn
for the year.
