AT&T is teaming up with major technology suppliers
to offer a managed radio frequency identification (RFID) deployment
service to firms.
AT&T is aiming to make it easier for firms to overcome
obstacles associated with RFID deployments, such as data security,
customer privacy and integration.
The telecoms company is partnering with BEA Systems on software,
Symbol Technologies for hardware, and Intel for developing
reference platforms for RFID readers and sensors.
AT&T is also working with the Internet Engineering Task
Force (IETF) and EPCglobal standards groups to help develop easier
RFID deployments for customers. EPCglobal is the main RFID
standards group.
The BEA WebLogic RFID Edge Server, WebLogic RFID Enterprise
Server and WebLogic Portal software systems will be provided as
part of AT&T's managed RFID service.
This software can be used to manage devices, filter data and
integrate RFID systems with enterprise processes.
