EMC and NEC team up on system development
NEC and EMC are jointly developing new storage and enterprise
content management systems. The companies have agreed to develop
storage hardware based on the Storage Bridge Bay storage
interoperability standard.
Advanced BI server platforms planned
Business intelligence supplier SAS has teamed up with
infrastructure supplier Bull to build advanced business
intelligence server platforms that can gather and use data more
intelligently from an enterprise resource planning system. The aim
is to help users to improve their business performance and
strategic management, said the companies.
SOA to be developed for Intentia's Movex3
Intentia is to develop a service oriented architecture for
Movex3, the third generation of its enterprise software. The
company said the new product would be designed to help mid-sized
companies adopt more flexible business processes. Movex3 will offer
industry-specific functionality, Intentia said.
AmberPoint to help manage Iona's SOA
Iona Technologies is collaborating with management software
supplier AmberPoint to provide management of Iona's service
oriented architecture products. The relationship pairs Artix,
Iona's extensible enterprise service bus, with AmberPoint's SOA
Management System, giving users the means to implement highly
distributed SOA.
Carphone's free offer may start price war
A broadband pricing war could be on the cards, following the
expected plan by Carphone Warehouse to offer a free broadband
service to customers who sign up for its Talk Talk voice landline
service. Carphone Warehouse believes it can take broadband sales
away from the likes of BT and Wanadoo.
Opera browsers gain web telephony
Opera Software has partnered with voice over IP specialist
Jajah to integrate the Jajah web telephony product into Opera
browsers. Jajah's services will be available through Opera Mobile
and Opera Mini during the second quarter of 2006. It will also be
included as a widget in the upcoming Opera 9 desktop browser.
Java development kit released for FreeBSD
The FreeBSD Foundation has released the official Java Runtime
Environment and Java Development Kit (JDK) for the FreeBSD Unix
operating system. The foundation has negotiated a licence with Sun
Microsystems to distribute the Java runtime software based on JDK
1.5, which will run on FreeBSD 5.4 and FreeBSD 6.0 releases.
Construction industry gets Oracle platform
Oracle has launched its Collaborative Building Information
Management platform for the construction industry. The initiative
provides an enterprise collaboration platform to make building
information available from a single source.
Records management app aims for consistency
Stellent, a provider of content management software, has
developed an application to enable firms to apply records and
retention policies in a consistent, legally defensible way across
the enterprise. Stellent Universal Records Management allows
organisations to define, manage and execute records and retention
management policies for all enterprise content from a single
application.
Apple's Boot Camp allows dual OS on Macs
Apple has released the Boot Camp program to allow users to run
Microsoft's Windows XP on Macs. Boot Camp can be used on Macs that
are driven with Intel microprocessors. The program allows users to
partition the hard drive to allow Windows XP and Apple's OS X to
run.
