The world's fastest PC, with clock speeds of up to
5.46GHz, was demonstrated at the CeBit trade show this
month.
The Dream Machine PC was the result of a collaboration between
Asetek, Kingston Technology and Western Digital, the fourth time
the partners had built such a platform for CeBit.
Last year, the three companies demonstrated a PC that could run
to 5GHz, so the increase from last year has not been large.
The 2006 model was built around a souped-up Intel 3.8GHz CPU,
with an advanced cooling system to allow the system to take the
heat generated by such high processing speeds.
The Dream Machine included Asetek's Vapochill Lightspeed CPU
cooling, Waterchill graphics card and motherboard chipset
cooling.
It also featured Kingston's HyperX Ram system, and Western
Digital's Raptor X 150Gbyte hard drive.
Although the machine is primarily designed to showcase the
ultimate PC for computer games, the technology it uses could find
its way into business computers.
IBM's cell processor, also demonstrated at CeBit, which is being
used in Sony's next generation Playstation, will also be deployed
in IBM blade servers.
