The former CA chief executive who faces charges
following the 2004 $2.2bn accounting scandal at the company has
been accused of destroying evidence on his laptop.
Sanjay Kumar is accused of erasing his laptop's hard drive to
destroy potential evidence, according to documents released by the
US Attorney's office.
The US Attorney's office said it will submit evidence showing
that Kumar reformatted his laptop to run the Linux operating
system, which effectively wiped out the computer's memory.
The reformatting is said to have occurred after the commencement
of the government probe into the accounting scandal, and after the
company issued memos directing CA employees to preserve all
relevant evidence.
Kumar's attorney said the prosecution’s latest allegations were
“baseless”. Kumar was axed by the company after the accounting
scandal came to light.
Kumar’s trial will start in April. He has pleaded not guilty to
securities fraud and obstruction charges.
