Microsoft has announced new prices and new versions of
its forthcoming Office 2007 collaboration suite. The company said
the new software would cost around the same as existing
platforms.
Office Standard will sell for $399 (£230), while Office
Professional will retail at $499 (£287). UK prices are to be
decided separately based on UK market conditions nearer the time of
launch.
The software was previously codenamed Office 12, but its
commercial name has been confirmed as Office 2007.
The company released an initial beta of the package last
November, and plans a second beta this spring. Microsoft is
replacing the Student and Teacher edition of the suite with a $149
(£86). Home and Student edition, which can be used by all home
users.
Microsoft is removing the Outlook e-mail and calendar program
from this edition, and is instead including the OneNote note-taking
application. There will also be additional Professional Plus and
Enterprise editions which will be more expensive to reflect
additional features.
