Apple Computer admits it may not be able to meet demand
for its new Intel-driven laptops next month.
Apple chief operating officer Tim Cook said, “The limited number
of weeks to ship in the second quarter and the very strong response
we’ve had means we may not be able to meet demand for the MacBook
Pro.”
Apple has also warned financial analysts that a shortage in the
number of MacBook Pros may affect its second quarter results.
The two MacBooks being launched next month are equipped with
Intel’s Core Duo chip, a dual-processor designed to boost data
processing speeds.
Any shortage will be partly linked to Apple keeping the
introduction of its first Intel PCs very close to its chest,
leaving the channel unprepared.
It had previously said their introduction could take until the
middle of this year, and it surprised the market by launching the
first Intel desktops this month.
Apple is migrating away from IBM’s PowerPC chips for its PCs,
and plans to equip all its products with Intel processors by the
end of the year.
