The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has awarded
Capgemini a seven year £350m IT and telephony services
contract.
Capgemini leads the Cubit consortium which also includes Unisys
and BT. The new contract sees ATOS Origin, EDS and Damovo not being
kept on by the MPS after their existing contracts for similar work
finish.
ATOS Origin and EDS will be replaced by Cubit in June 2006 and
Damovo by December 2006.
Cubit will be responsible for the management and support of
desktop IT networks, telephony and mobile devices. This includes
around 30,000 desktops and laptops, 38,000 telephone extensions and
8,500 mobile phones.
The contract will also cover the support of over 50 MPS software
applications relating to crime reporting information, analysis and
records storage.
Cubit will also supply help desk services, new data centres
hosting applications and services, and infrastructure monitoring
and management tools to enable effective service management.
MPS director of information Ailsa Beaton said, “After a rigorous
selection process we believe Cubit offered the most appropriate
solutions to meet the specific demands of policing London in the
21st Century.
“We look forward to working with Cubit to ensure the Met has
robust, flexible and resilient ICT services to support front-line
policing that will also provide value for money.”
The majority of services will be provided by Capgemini. Unisys
will provide applications management and support, some data centre
services and desktop support. BT will manage and support the MPS
wide and local area networks (Wan and Lan), and telephony and
mobile services.
