Volantis has developed server software that converts
website content in real time into a format that can be read on
mobile devices.
Volantis Transcoder converts websites designed to be accessed
from a PC into a mobile format for more than 1,700 models of mobile
device. The site is optimised for each device, Volantis said.
Without transcoding, most websites either fail to display or are
difficult to use on mobile devices. Challenges encountered when
attempting to make a site function on a mobile device include
unsupported markup languages, layouts that are optimised for PCs,
and large file sizes. Even when sites can be viewed on a device,
page loading can be slow and navigation difficult.
Volantis said the Transcoder resizes web pages for smaller
screens and reduces image sizes to cut download time. It also
removes any information not supported on the mobile device.
