Sun is planning a radio frequency identification (RFID)
system that will combine the abilities of its existing IT asset
management platforms with RFID to track non-networked items such as
hospital equipment and office furniture.
Sun and its partners have named the technology, which is still
under development, Sun RFID Industry Solution for Physical Asset
Tracking.
Sun is aiming to make RFID a pervasive technology, whereby all
assets, not just those deemed to be mission critical, can always be
tracked when necessary.
The solution is aimed at different parts of a business or public
sector organisation that can’t easily be networked using
traditional means.
No release date for the RFID Industry Solution for Physical
Asset Tracking has been confirmed by Sun.
