The IT industry is gearing up for this year's Intellect
ICT Industry Charity Ball, which was postponed to October 4
following the London bombings on 7 July - the day it was to have
taken place.
The theme of the ball, due to be attended by hundreds of IT
professionals, remains "A Night at the Movies" but now includes "A
Bop at the Palais" as the new venue is the Hammersmith Palais.
The ball, supported by Computer Weekly and City IT livery
company the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, aims
to raise up to £100,000 for the Starlight Charity.
The charity helps seriously ill children by granting wishes and
providing entertainment in hospitals throughout the UK. To date
Starlight has provided 817 "fun centres" to hospitals and hospices
at a cost of £3,000 each, and it aims to open more this year.
The organisers of the ICT Industry Charity Ball are seeking
extra sponsorship and making more tables available at the new
location to help ensure that Starlight does not lose out because of
the disruption.
The event, attended by IT users, suppliers and consultants, will
comprise cocktails, dinner, fairground entertainers, charity
auctions, tombola, dancing and a variety of entertainment.
There are many prizes to be won and lots in the live auction
include:
- A day's clay pigeon shooting with ex-footballer and film star
Vinnie Jones for a party of 12
- Alan Bird, head chef of top London restaurant The Ivy, cooking
a meal for eight in the successful bidder's own home
- A round of golf at Sunningdale with Dougray Scott, the actor
who will play 007 in the next James Bond movie
- A framed Chelsea football shirt signed by the 2005 Premier
League winners.
The ball's sponsors include Atos Origin, EDS, IBM, Intel,
Microsoft, OKI, Sx3, Veritas and GFT.
Since its inauguration in 2000 the annual charity ball has
raised more than £150,000 for various charities. A table this year
costs £1,950 plus VAT, with individual bookings welcome at £195
plus VAT.
Tickets sold for the 7 July event are valid for the new date of
4 October.
