LANDesk Software is shipping a network access control
(NAC) product that scans computers attempting to connect to a
corporate network, and which quarantines any systems that don’t
meet the necessary security policies.
The solution allows network managers to see whether laptops or
desktops have their auto-protection turned on and up-to-date
patches installed.
The solution is particularly useful for companies employing
staff who regularly connect to other networks while away from their
main workplace.
Such networks may not be as protected as their employer’s, so
they may pick up a computer virus and potentially spread it to
other employees when they re-connect to their home network.
LANDesk Security Suite 8.6 sells for £35 per node, which
includes the client-based software. Companies including Microsoft
and Cisco offer similar solutions.
