The thing that keeps IT managers awake at night the most
is “supporting business priorities”, with security coming in at
second place.
ICM Research carried out the survey for Computer Associates of
175 UK and Ireland IT managers. It found that while compliance and
security are high on the IT agenda, day-to-day support of the
business was the primary concern. “Supporting business priorities”
was causing insomnia for 32% of respondents.
Similarly, when asked what they considered to be the biggest
risk to business over the next 12 months, IT managers chose the
cost of IT upgrades and server downtime (25% and 23%
respectively).
The research also questioned IT managers about their use of open
source software. 70% of respondents indicated that they didn’t use
open source software anywhere in their organisation. Of those, 75%
said the lack of open source deployment was not the result of a
strategic decision.
Interestingly, 13% of the respondents didn’t know whether they
were using open source software or not.
