At its JavaOne developer conference this week Sun
Microsystems has announced it is making key Java Enterprise
technologies open source.
Code for the Java Application Server version 9.0 and the Java
Enterprise Server Bus has been released to the open source
community, under the same licensing conditions as Sun's Solaris
operating system.
Java Application Server 9.0 is the benchmark for compatibility
in Java Enterprise environments.
Based on the latest Java Enterprise Edition 5 reference
implementation, Java Application Server 9.0 aims to deliver greater
ease of development, and more support for web services and
service-oriented architectures (SOAs).
Sun said Java Enterprise Server Bus increased business agility
and reduced cost of integration through an open integration
framework for SOAs, enabling users to implement open SOA
applications more rapidly.
In addition, Sun is donating 135,000 lines of collaboration and
infrastructure source code from its Java Instant Messaging and Java
Studio Enterprise products to the open source community via
NetBeans.org.
