British Airways is installing route-planning software to
improve its route-profitability planning.
The system, from ALG Software, will automate parts of the financial
reporting process to provide the airline with activity-based
costing to support predictive planning.
Paul Stafford, information management design manager at BA, said,
"Retaining a clear view of all of our costs and the profitability
of our routes is vital.
"Making the system as simple and intuitive as possible is also a
key issue for us. The ability to create web-based input screens, to
capture the differing data requirements from every department in
BA, will be a genuine benefit."
The airline has also equipped 500 of its managers with Extended
Systems' Onebridge mobile groupware to allow them to access e-mail
via their own mobile devices.
Fewer BA staff are being given laptops for accessing corporate
systems. Instead the airline is encouraging staff to integrate
their own mobile devices and smartphones onto the new network.
