Intelligence data project running three years late
A government programme to allow intelligence
agencies to exchange information through secure web links is
running three years behind schedule, a report by the Intelligence
and Security Committee has revealed. Completion of the project,
called Scope, has shifted from 2004 to 2007. It will link the Home
Office, the Department of Trade and Industry, HM Customs and Excise
and the National Criminal Intelligence Service to the UK
Intelligence Messaging Network.
Abbey puts 100,000 pages of manuals online
High street bank Abbey has put 100,000 pages of technical manuals
online in three months using enterprise content management software
from Open Text to put the information online. Abbey's 25,000 staff
can now access manuals stored in a database on its intranet, which
include policies for the day-to-day running of the company and
ensuring regulatory compliance.
MPs raise doubts over child protection index
Government plans for councils to create child index databases are
not likely to offer them better protection to children at risk,
according to a group of MPs. In a report published on 5 April, the
Commons Education and Skills Committee said, "The evidence we have
received has left us with doubts about whether investment in child
indexes can currently be justified in terms of the contribution it
is likely to make to improving outcomes for children."
Dating site worm suspect arrested
Scotland Yard's Computer Crime Unit has arrested a
Sheffield man following an attack on a dating agency website.
Investigations uncovered evidence that the suspect had been
involved in writing the W32/Mirsa. A & B mass-mailing worms.
The man is alleged to have hacked into the loveandfriends.com
dating site and taken controls of members profiles by using brute
force password attacks.
CA to buy Concord Communications
Computer Associates is to buy network management supplier Concord
Communications for about £190m. Concord's eHealth technology
provides proactive network performance management and predictive
capacity planning, and is used by telecoms companies, service
providers and businesses.
