The state of the European software industry will be the
subject of a forthcoming event organised by IT industry charity
forum the Prince’s Trust Technology Leadership Group.
The meeting, in London on 14 March, will ask why there are only
40 software businesses based in Europe with annual revenue of more
than £20m, compared with 280 based in North America, even though
the two geograhical areas have similar gross domestic products.
Speakers will be heads of supplier companies, but the meeting is
open to users as well as suppliers. User members of the Technology
Leadership Group include Citigroup, the Department of Health,
GlaxoSmithKline, Legal & General, Lehman Brothers, Lloyds TSB
and Rolls-Royce.
Each member makes a £10,000 a year charitable donation to join,
which can be offset against tax. That sum is matched by the
government to support young people setting up in business.
The aim of the Technology Leadership Group, which has so far
raised more than £2m for technology-related start-up businesses
supported by the Prince’s Trust, is to enable young people to
realise their entrepreneurial potential.
Being connected to the Prince’s Trust, the Technology Leadership
Group has access to a range of impressive venues for its events,
including royal palaces.
The 14 March meeting is one of the group’s quarterly networking
events, which aim to facilitate discussion between business and
government and build bridges across the IT sector. The event will
be held at the London Hilton Metropole at 6pm. It is open to
non-Technology Leadership Group members, at £150 per head.
