The UK government has launched a new initiative, ITsafe,
which aims to protect small businesses and home computer users from
viruses and other online threats.
The initiative aims to ensure that users are aware of the risks
involved in using the web and sending e-mails, and to provide clear
information enabling any threats to be dealt with easily and
effectively.
Through its website
(www.itsafe.gov.uk) users
can get information on virus and threat alerts and comprehensive
advice on how to respond to them.
Users can also sign up to receive immediate notification of new
threats, and information on what actions need to be taken to deal
with them, either by e-mail or text message.
ITsafe uses information provided by the government’s centre for
electronic defence, the National Infrastructure Security
Co-ordination Centre (NISCC).
Users will only be told of the most serious security threats,
which are identified by the NISC to have the potential to affect
millions of people.
