Siemens unveils IP future

Wednesday 23 February 2005 12:03

Siemens Communication has revealed the latest details of its future IP communications strategy.

At the 21st Century Communications conference on 21 February, Christian Unterberger, president of fixed networks at Siemens, said the company’s offerings would be based on the concept of the “common user experience”. This would encompass a unified IP-based domain that would support services from wireless, wireline, private and public networks.

The new domain will be given the branding LifeWorks@Com.

Unterberger said he believed that broadband applications would drive new solutions such as VoIP and multimedia conferencing in the business domain. These applications, he said, should and would be available via any device and any access medium, and would be secure and easy to use on network platforms.

Unterberger said this was the essence of true convergence and would provide a powerful architecture for converged services, giving end-users simplicity, ubiquity and flexibility.
