The Liberty Alliance has released the draft standard for
its second generation framework for identity-based web
services.
Liberty's ID-WSF 2.0 supports SamL (Security Assertions Mark-up
Language) 2.0 from web services standards body Oasis (Organisation
for Advancement of Structured Information Sciences).
SamL defines a framework for communicating security and identity
information between computer systems, with SamL providing improved
security in XML.
Liberty said the move was part of its strategy to help converge
different identity specifications to deliver
interoperability.
George Goodman, president of Liberty Alliance's management board,
said, "These specifications provide a blueprint for driving
convergence between federated identity and web services
specifications, a necessary step to complete interoperability."
Gerry Gebel, an analyst at Burton Group, said, "SamL 2.0 is a
significant convergence point in the evolution of federation
standards. It is important that suppliers and other organisations
involved in the standards development process provide a clear
roadmap to support this latest version of SamL."
