Enterprise content management software supplier
Interwoven has introduced a tool to help end-users manage their
websites.
Livesite Content Publishing Server creates, deploys and manages
websites and offers a graphical interface to allow non-IT staff to
carry out web tasks.
Designed for public internet, intranets and extranets, Livesite
also provides IT departments with the tools to deliver the
necessary controls and security, Interwoven said.
"There used to be a time when business users were generally
satisfied with IT departments handling the creation of websites,
when IT did not constantly have a backlog of business user
requests, but those days are long gone," said Kevin Cochrane,
Interwoven vice-president, web content management products and
solutions.
Interwoven said in today's business climate end-users are
increasingly taking charge of the online channel. Cochrane said,
"Business users are eager to take on this role - to have control
and flexibility in managing initiatives."
Andrew Warzecha, an analyst at Meta Group, said, "As firms struggle
to keep pace with the growing demand being placed on the online
channel, it is becoming increasingly important for enterprise
content management suppliers to deliver products that empower
non-technical users to take ownership and still keep ultimate
control in the hands of IT.
According to Meta, users are looking for a new generation of web
content management technology with greater usability to take the
pressure off IT departments.
