Along with PeopleSoft and Oracle, the industry witnessed
another mega deal at the end of last year when anti-virus supplier
Symantec announced a £7.2bn acquisition of
Veritas.
Veritas is the market leader in storage management and data back-up
and offers products to support information lifecycle management
technology. Symantec's main focus has been security products such
as anti-virus, firewall and e-mail security software.
Analyst firm Meta said, "Security is part of information life-cycle
management and regulatory/compliance puzzles, and it must be
included in information classification efforts."
The general information explosion and increased compliance
requirements are pushing IT organisations to define business and
operational processes, as well as information requirements, said
Meta.
It predicted that by combining security and storage management
software from Veritas, Symantec may go some way to being able to
develop an automated policy-based information and workflow
management system. This would classify all data about security,
back-up, availability, performance, interdependencies, retention
and archiving, as well as asset information.
