Matrix X-Series gets go-ahead for
grids
Enterasys Networks has launched a family of high performance
network hardware designed to support real-time applications. Matrix
X-Series has been optimised to run applications such as VoIP, video
to the desktop, high-performance imaging and grid computing. It was
beta tested at one of the world's largest grid computing projects
at Cern in Geneva.
Open source Firefox takes on Microsoft's
IE
An open source browser rival to Microsoft's Internet Explorer has
been released. Firefox 1.0 will block pop-ups and stops ActiveX
controls from running, which is a major security concern in IE. The
Mozilla website has reported that there have been seven million
downloads of the Firefox preview to date.
CA goes on pest patrol with E-trust
software
Computer Associates has begun shipping E-trust Pestpatrol
Anti-spyware r5 security software. As part of CA's E-trust Threat
Management software portfolio, it is designed to safeguard PCs from
unauthorised access, data theft and diminished system performance.
It includes tools to protect users from spyware, trojans,
denial-of-service attack agents and other back door web-based
threats.
Oasis agrees XML spec for business
documents
The Oasis international standards consortium has ratified the
Universal Business Language version 1.0. UBL defines a common XML
library of business documents, such as purchase orders and
invoices, and reusable data components.
Dell ships server for
supercomputing
Dell is shipping the Poweredge SC1425 server aimed at
supercomputing clusters and distributed web farms. The server is
configured with dual Intel Xeon EM64T processors and up to 12Gbytes
of memory. It is available in six configurations from eight to 256
nodes running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.
Unisys server family to support Itanium
9M
Unisys has introduced a family of ES7000 servers to support Intel's
Itanium 9M processor. The server line includes the ES7000/460,
which Unisys said was the industry's only hybrid system supporting
the Itanium 2 and Intel Xeon MP processors in the same rack-mounted
unit. The servers run Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Novell
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server and offer twice the processing
capacity and memory than the previous models, Unisys said.
WebMethods links to trading
exchange
Middleware provider WebMethods is collaborating with integration
specialist Global eXchange Services, to develop end-to-end business
integration. Fabric, WebMethods' business integration software,
will be integrated with the GXS Trading Grid, which supports more
than 30,000 businesses worldwide including Dixons, Ocado and the
Royal Mail in the UK.
PeopleSoft introduces Rapid Start for
SMEs
ERP supplier PeopleSoft is introducing EnterpriseOne Rapid Start
8.11 for small to medium-sized manufacturers. Rapid Start combines
PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne applications, consulting, education
services, hardware and financing and is aimed at extending existing
financial, distribution and manufacturing functionality with human
resources and CRM. Rapid Start 8.11 will be available for Intel,
IBM eServer iSeries, Unix and Linux-based platforms.
Check Point protects PCs with TAP
initiative
Check Point Software Technologies has developed a security
framework called the Total Access Protection (TAP) endpoint
security initiative, which is designed to secure PCs from hackers,
targeted attacks, spyware and malicious code. Check Point plans to
deliver manageable host intrusion prevention for endpoint PCs at
the end of the year.
