Hewlett-Packard is aiming to make it easier and cheaper
for SMEs to adopt storage area networks (SANs), to enable them to
easily share their data around their companies.
“The market opportunity for network storage solutions for small
businesses will continue to grow as lower prices and
easier-to-implement solutions attract new customers,” said John
McArthur, analyst at IDC.
He said, “Products such as HP’s new entry-level network storage
solution should be a compelling offering for SME customers and
channel partners serving the lower end of the market.”
Available direct through HP and its channel partners, the HP
StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) 1000 Small Business SAN Kit
is a complete package that costs about £5,395.
HP claimed this package can be deployed by SMEs with little
technical expertise “in just minutes”.
Each kit includes HP StorageWorks MSA1000, a Fibre Channel disc
array with two QLogic SANblade host bus adapters, and an eight-port
Fibre Channel QLogic SANbox Switch, all in a single box.
An included installation CD simplifies set up and configuration.
Based on the QLogic SANsurfer Small Business SAN Wizard, the
installation software enables customers to get the entire SAN up
and running in a matter of minutes, said HP.
