Users prefer a thin client desktop to a full PC for running
the same applications, a study by Winterm for Wyse Technology has
found.
The research involved asking 110 people to conduct a set of
everyday business tasks using Microsoft Office on a Wyse Winterm
thin client and a business PC of average power.
Both devices were hidden from the user and the two desktop
environments were identical. After carrying out the test,
candidates were asked which was faster to use and which they
preferred.
Seven out of 10 candidates said they preferred the thin client to
the PC. Most of the users who took part in the study also said that
the thin client was the faster desktop.
The Wyse Winterm 1125SE thin client was connected to a Citrix
Metaframe server running Microsoft Office 2000. The PC was powered
by a 1.3GHz AMD Duron processor.
