Independent software vendors (ISVs) in IBM's Application
Enablement Programme will gain access to tools to provide their
application hosting services more cheaply.
The scheme,
which IBM hopes will extend the idea of "software as a service",
applies to tier-two ISVs that run their packages on infrastructure
at IBM's data centres, and will provide them with a range of new
resources free to encourage them to make the investment necessary
to rearchitect their applications.
Chris
Nicoletti, general manager for IBM's e-business hosting services in
EMEA, said as of next quarter the vendor would dynamically allocate
more system resources to ISVs in line with peaks or troughs in
demand and application hosting prices would fall by between ten and
25 per cent. To exploit this functionality most ISVs will need to
rewrite their applications.
