IBM subsidiary Rational Software has introduced tools to make it
easier for IT staff in different locations to collaborate when
developing software.
IBM, which bought Rational last year, used Rational's user
conference in the US last week to launch its Atlantic suite.
The Atlantic tools include modelling and testing elements as well
as remote collaboration built around the Clearcase client. Some of
the tools launched under the Atlantic umbrella will use elements of
IBM's Eclipse range of products, including the open source Eclipse
integrated development environment.
Mike Devlin, general manager at Rational Software, said, "The
Eclipse environment can be seen as the integration framework for
the technology base of IBM's and Rational's tools."
Some of the tools launched at the conference will be in an open
source format, but IBM did not release further details. The key
features of Atlantic are product integration and compatibility. The
tools will offer support for Java-based products and IBM's
Websphere development products.
