The BCS has introduced its new membership structure to MPs and alerted them to the need for professionalism, standards and ethics at a special event at the House of Commons.

Education and skills secretary Charles Clarke congratulated the BCS on its campaign to develop IT skills across the general public.

BCS chief executive David Clarke warned MPs that the IT profession was in danger of entering a period of public mistrust unless it addressed standards and ethics. It is for this reason that the BCS is driving forward its membership campaign.

The BCS has also been publicly endorsed by science and innovation minister Lord Sainsbury and Peter Gershon, former chief executive of the Office of Government Commerce.
