Users of the new Siemens SX1 mobile
phone will be able to receive and send video voicemails thanks to a
visual voicemail (VVM) client from multimedia software developer
Comverse.
The SX1 phones, powered by the Symbian
operating system, are being supplied to operators for sale with the
VVM client pre-loaded to use by users.
The VVM client can be used on both GPRS and 3G
networks and is claimed to have a visual interface that makes
message retrieval and management more efficient. Users can forward
and respond to a video voice message by pressing a single button
using the subscriber personal address book on the phone.
The VVM software also enables a non-intrusive
form of communication with the “record and send” function. Using
this, subscribers can record and send a new video voice message
directly to individuals or groups without causing their phone to
ring.
Comverse says that the VVM client gives users
the ability to organise and act on their voicemails in the same
simple way as their e-mails.
Such a service on the SX1 phone is a boon to
Siemens in its drive to consolidate its position in the top three
mobile phone manufacturers in the world by volume, after overtaking
Ericsson in the number three spot.
