With the increase in valuable enterprise data being carried
by mobile workers, companies may be nervous about business plans
falling into the wrong hands. To address this concern, Memory
Experts International has launched a product to protect data even
when a laptop or personal digital assistant is
stolen.
The company's Clipdrive Bio portable storage device can only be
accessed by the user's fingerprint. The device's internal scanner
stores the user's fingerprint, which then has to be placed on a
reader whenever the data needs to be accessed. All data can be
encrypted on a partitioned section of the device for extra
security.
Clipdrive Bio plugs into USB drives of portable devices and can
store up to 2Gbytes of data - more than enough for
content-sensitive presentations or spreadsheets.
l Businesses deploying wireless Lans can now easily set up secure
printer connections with the Pocketpro USB Wireless Print Server
from Troy.
The print server is designed for use in companies where network
cables are either impractical or too expensive, or where printers
tend to be moved frequently, either around the building or to
different locations, such as at a conference.
Security is handled by either the basic Wired Equivalent Privacy
protocol or the more secure end-to-end connections delivered
through the Tunnelled Transport Layer security protocol. Pocketpro
supports any 802.11-based wireless Lan and costs about £170.
